Karen Jean Matsko Hood is an author and poet, child advocate and feminist, researcher and educator, cook, and an epicurean writer. She is an experienced teacher and a public speaker who instinctively inspires audiences of all ages through her extensive writings and her strong desire for social justice.
Living in the Inland Northwest presents a multitude of opportunities for both participation and facilitation of charitable events. From book signings to seminars and workshops, Ms. Hood is a strong supporter of projects that strengthen the local economy as well as educate communities.
Karen Jean Matsko Hood is the founder and CEO of Whispering Pine Press International, Inc. which publishes a wide genre of family-friendly literature, including cookbooks, poetry, inspirational, children’s and young adult, adoption and foster-family books, scrapbooks, journals, dog and horse-themed materials, and catalogs.

You are invited to attend our 1st Annual Poets Unite! Event. Author and Poet Karen Jean Matsko Hood will be present to personally autograph your copies of Frost of Spring Green, Morning Reflections, and a variety of her cookbooks, inspirational, and children’s books. Submit your one-page poem for an opportunity to become published by Whispering Pine Press International, Inc.
July 2011: “27th Annual Walla Walla Sweet Onion Festival” in Walla Walla, Washington. This family-friendly festival is all about fun! Events include; “Sweet Onion Olympics” on the Courthouse lawn, an onion eating contest, recipe and art contests, games, live music, chef demonstrations, a farmer’s market, and much more. July 2011: “2011 Lentil Festival” in downtown Pullman, Washington. The main event includes a cook-off contest where dishes are judged on appearance, flavor, aroma, texture, and lentil presence. The winning recipes are awarded cash prizes. Entries come from across the country, originating in nearly 40 states.
