Karen Jean Matsko Hood has really outdone herself this time. With Thanksgiving Delights, the prolific cookbook author and chef has created a timeless collection of recipes that will make your Thanksgiving holiday a joy for all your guests. The sheer variety of recipes at your fingertips is staggering: there are over a dozen recipes for cooking turkey alone, as well as several other options in case you want to serve a different main course. There are enough options to create an entire feast without repeating a single item of food for many years to come.

Recipes range from the traditional to the innovative, and all are laid out with clear, easy-to-follow directions supported by a glossary of cooking terms in the back so that even budding chefs are sure to be successful. Apple cider is a classic holiday beverage, but Thanksgiving Delights doesn’t stop there: you can choose from traditional Mulled Cider, Harvest Coffee Cider, Cranberry Raspberry Cider, and more. The possibilities are as exciting as they are tempting! From appetizer to dessert, breakfast to dinner, and everything in between, Thanksgiving Delights provides a wealth of fabulous dishes that will make your holiday a smashing success.

My family tried out the Pumpkin Melt-in-Your-Mouth Biscuits, Herbed Turkey Breast, Chestnut Dressing, and Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes. The biscuits were a lot of fun: slightly sweet, flaky, and absolutely delicious when slathered with butter. The pumpkin was a great touch, and I will be making these again to take to the family gathering this Thanksgiving. The herbed butter on the turkey made the meat especially tender and flavorful: I usually struggle to keep my turkey from drying out, but this was one of the most moist turkeys I have ever cooked and it was a very simple recipe. The Chestnut Dressing was a perfect complement to the turkey. I didn’t know what to expect since I have never cooked with chestnuts (or made my own dressing from scratch) before, but it turned out to be a hit with everyone. The nutty taste blended well with the herbs and gave the dressing a lot of texture and body–absolutely delicious! The Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes were a tasty twist on a classic dish, and I know my family will be begging me to make them all year long. This year, we’re starting a new holiday tradition with Thanksgiving Delights–I can’t recommend it enough.

Mountain Valley View Farm is thrilled to announce that we have received the license for our commercial kitchen! The Mountain Valley View Farm Kitchen in located inside our Getaway Studio and is officially licensed by the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) to produce small batches of artisan foods and sell them directly to you!

Our canned goods and jams are a quick and convenient way to bring home that fresh, made-from-scratch quality you are longing for. All of our jams are handmade the old-fashioned way in small batches so you know you are getting that wonderful homemade taste. We sell both traditional canned jams and freezer jams. Freezer jam is a quick and easy way to preserve fruit that does not involve cooking, so it tastes closer to fresh fruit than a traditional jam. Keeping it in the freezer gives you fresh fruit flavor all year long.

Mountain Valley View Farm offers three flavors of canned jam: huckleberry, raspberry, and strawberry; and three flavors of freezer jam: blueberry, cherry, and strawberry. Both types of jam are made from organic fruit grown on our farm, except for the wild huckleberries, which are handpicked fresh in the mountains. Huckleberry picking is a cherished Northwest tradition, and we are delighted to offer some of the most outstanding wild huckleberry jam you will ever taste. You will love all of our jams, which are simply bursting with delicious flavor and nutrition, so give us a call at 509-928-1800! Delivery may be available for a reasonable fee, or we can schedule a time for you to drop by the farm to pick up some wonderful, homemade jam!
